Believe!

It's a spiritual awakening! No, it's a revival! No, it's... the Olympics??? Everywhere you look, you see it - emblazoned on billboards and t-shirts: Believe! It's great to be talking about faith matters, and believing in our country during the winter Olympic games is something worth celebrating. But when the Olympics are over, will you still believe? If you put your faith in Jesus, you can anticipate a great and glorious day, better than any gold medal win - it's the Day of the Lord, and it's coming soon. Join us this Sunday, Feb 21 at 10 a.m. We're looking at Joel 2 and Acts 2.

The Royal Treatment

I hope you get the royal treatment this Sunday, but even better, I hope you treat others royally. That doesn't always come naturally for us. In the book of Judges there is a refrain that goes like this: In those days there was no king in Israel; people did whatever they felt like doing. Of course, the result was chaos. We need a king. And we have one; he is Jesus Christ. When we follow him, we can anticipate God's royal treatment. Join us this Sunday, Feb 14, Valentine's Day, at 10 a.m.

Mom to Mom

Our new Mom to Mom group started meeting a few weeks ago. The moms get together to share stories and talk about their joys and challenges. The group meets on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the Church. The moms pictured here include (front row) Stephanie, Mandy, Cheryl, Ronda, Joanne, (back row) Patricia, Alicia, Julie, and Christine. More moms (and their little ones!) are welcome to join anytime.

Derk's baptism

Yesterday we had the privilege of witnessing the baptism of Derk Adrian Askes. And what a privilege- to see with our very eyes God's grace extended to this new baby. Congratulations Alicia & Trevor!

Watch this!

When men say, "Watch this," they are often about to embark on some death defying feat. (ok, that's a huge generalization, but really, it's usually the guys, isn't it?). When Jesus performs his miracles, it's as though he's saying, "watch this! Let me show you what this Kingdom of God about which I've been talking, looks like." At baptism too, Jesus says to us, "watch this - see what it looks like to be washed in the blood of the Lamb." This Sunday, Jan 31, at 10 a.m. we look at the healing of the man who was lowered through the roof - the story is in Mark 2:1-12. We will also witness the baptism of Derk Adrian Askes. A vicious circle

* * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * *** The book of Judges is about a vicious circle; it's about people forgetting God, getting in trouble, God having compassion and sending a judge to save, and then, after the judge dies, it starts all over again. This Sunday we begin a mini-series on this troubling book of the bible. Left on our own, our compromises draw us away from God. But thanks be to God, the final judge, Jesus Christ, also came to save. His saving work broke the cycle - Jesus broke the power that sin and death held over us.
